LEARNING FACILITATION PROGRAMME

Designed for self-directed and collaborative learning.
Mainly for Pri 3 to Sec 5 students.

Facilitated Learning

Adopting the method of facilitation to enable students to be self-directed and collaborative in their learning endeavour. In a group setting, students are habituated to the three levels of learning – self, peer and facilitated.

Study Skills Development

Study skills development forms the core of enabling students to be self-directed and collaborative learners. We believe that with study skills, students can excel in their studies.

Portfolio Development

Where possible, students will be enthused to develop, grow and expand their portfolio in both academic and non-academic endeavours.

Facilitated Learning

We do not teach nor tutor our students. Instead, we facilitate their effort to study on their own or with friends.

In every session, students are encouraged to study two to three subjects. When students encounter a topic they could not understand or a problem they could not solve, instead of offering a solution immediately, we facilitate their learning process.

We do this by questioning and modelling a possible way for them to clarify their own understanding or craft a solution. Where relevant, we will impart to them one of the 12 Instruments of Clarifying Understanding.

When studying in groups, we encourage students to adopt the three levels of learning – self, peer and facilitated.

Study Skills Development

Our study skills development is based on the Attend Development Framework.

Preceding the 22 Essential Study Skills are the Enabling Skills that are now targetted towards developing skills in Self Control, Working Memory and Mental Flexibility.

Beyond the 22 Essential Study Skills are the Advanced Study Skills and Trait-Specific Study Skills.

The Advanced Study Skills comprise of two sets – Subject-Specific Study Skills and the 12 Instruments of Clarifying Understanding.

22 Essential Study Skills developed since 1998

Portfolio Development

When students have attained Optimisation of their study skills, we can begin to facilitate their portfolio development that could be as narrow a scope as their progress in CCAs or as wide as career or life coaching.
